Setting Up WordPress Locally with Dokan & WCFM: A Step-by-Step Walkthrough

As part of my technical assessment for the weDevs Support Engineer role, I’ve recorded a hands-on video demonstrating how I set up a local development environment to explore and compare two of the most popular WooCommerce multivendor solutions: Dokan and WCFM Marketplace.

This video walkthrough is ideal for anyone who wants to replicate the environment I used for testing — or simply understand the setup process for local WordPress development with multivendor functionality.

🔧 What’s Covered in the Video:

Installing WAMP Server on Windows

I start by installing the WAMP server to create a local web development environment on my Windows PC. This is the foundation for running WordPress offline.

Downloading & Installing WordPress on WAMP

Next, I walk through downloading WordPress, placing it in the appropriate directory, creating a local database, and running the famous five-minute installation.

Setting Up WordPress Locally

Once installed, I log into the WordPress dashboard and configure some basic settings to prepare the site for plugin installation.

Installing & Configuring Dokan Multivendor Plugin (Basic Setup)

I install the free version of the Dokan Multivendor plugin and complete the onboarding wizard. This includes setting up vendor roles, enabling essential modules, and navigating the vendor dashboard interface.

Installing & Configuring WCFM Marketplace Plugin (Basic Setup)

To draw meaningful comparisons, I also install the WCFM Marketplace plugin and activate it alongside the WCFM Core plugin. This allows me to experience its frontend manager in action and explore how it handles vendor management.

Note: Dokan & WCFM has been installed here solely for analysis and comparative learning purposes.

Why This Matters:

This setup allowed me to get hands-on with both platforms and truly understand how each one performs from a vendor’s perspective. With both dashboards running in the same local environment, I was able to capture a direct feature-by-feature comparison under identical conditions.
